Isaac Asimov: Foundation

Read by Scott Brick

While not the first chronologically, Foundation is the first written book in the Foundation series. This is one of @bklynlibrary’s rex; I’m guessing this was suggested because of my mention of Le Guin’s Hainish Cycle. The story begins with the scandal surrounding mathematician and psychohistory scholar and researcher Hari Selden’s prediction of the eventual destruction of The Empire, a galaxy-wide governing establishment. Then it tells how the life of The Empire plays out from there. The story jumps decades into the offices of different seats of power to detail how Selden’s claim has impacted the motives and actions of each.

I liked the story. I liked the skipping–he stopped/jumped at the perfect place for each future power. I liked Hober Mallow. I liked it all well enough, liked it enough to consider looking into the rest of the series, but I’m in no rush.

11 down, 41~ to go.

(Technically, this wasn’t on the list, but it was supposed to be and I still managed to read it somehow…?)
