Caught My Eye: Ichikawa, Masao, and More

Masao Sangatsu: Yoru ga Akete mo

She favors a very particular kind of intimacy for her covers.

Ichikawa Kei: Sore o Koigokoro to Yobu no Nara

The angry faces. I can’t really explain, but they are the best part of the already cool cover. I guess because it’s both of them rather than one (usually the uke) who seems to be annoyed or inconvenienced.

Komatsu: Sorekara, Kimi o Kangaeru

I love the look of the water. In some areas it looks so real and in others it’s merely a suggestion.

Fumino Yuki: I Hidamari ga Kikoeru

It’s pretty and green. The title reminds me a bit of musical notation; I wonder if that was intentional.

Hamada Kamome: Ohayou to Oyasumi to Sono Ato ni V01

I thought I posted the cover of volume 1 already, but it seems that’s not the case. So, now you get all three. I liked the cover of v01 because of the colors and what the composition suggested about their relationship. Then, when I saw the other two recently, I was even more into it because you get the same feeling from all of them and together they give me such hope for a happy story with the possibility of a little bit of heartbreak. Just a little. Also, I like the overlay for the title and author; it’s very tidy. I’ve seen it on a few covers recently.

I really love the “Ohayou” series – it’s very very cute and fun. The covers are really great – it was the atmosphere of them that made me read the first volume, and I’ve been following it ever since (I really like most of the manga Fleur publishes).

The new Ichikawa Kei is great as always. I read it and fell in love with her writing all over again. I don’t know how she does it – she tells stories others have told before, but her way of telling it is better.

The “Hidamari” manga is very cute as well. It’s about a boy who is hard of hearing has been isolating himself from his surroundings while the other is loud and outgoing and pulls the other out of his self-imposed solitude. It’s BL-ish rather than BL, so chaste is it, but reading it feels like being in a sunspot – I read it last November and it warmed me up ^^

I’m looking forward to the Masao Sangatsu – I’ll buy it either in Japan or once I’m back and I can’t wait. I really love her manga, too.
